Complex questions and real decisions

CarbonSpace
Web platform · embodied carbon

CarbonSpace

A free web tool that estimates a building's embodied carbon from the napkin-sketch stage. No detailed model required.

Rough quantity inputs and a transparent carbon database give fast, useful feedback while design changes are still cheap.

Most LCA tools only work once a design is finished, when it's too late to change anything. CarbonSpace moves the carbon question to where it counts.

SolarScape — rooftop potential
Urban intelligence · rooftops

SolarScape

Where in a city is there still room to build? SolarScape maps a city's rooftops and reads their potential for new uses and development.

A data-driven layer over the 3D city that shows where the hidden capacity actually sits.

Cities need housing and infrastructure while land grows scarce. Making rooftop capacity visible gives cities, developers and policymakers a shared evidence base to act on.

Snijlab
File-to-factory platform

Snijlab

An online platform for laser cutting. Upload a drawing, get an instant quote, get the parts. Frontend, backend, and the DXF-analysis automation behind the quote.

Over 200,000 drawings analysed for instant quotes. What used to take days of back-and-forth now takes seconds.

The person behind the work

Arend van Waart

I'm Arend van Waart.

I work at the intersection of technology, data, design and the built environment, helping cities, organisations and businesses turn complex questions into better decisions. Trained as an architect in Delft and programming since my teens, I've spent more than twenty years moving between the creative world of designers, the technical world of programmers and engineers, and the strategic world of decision-makers.

My strength is finding the essential in complexity. Give me a messy, unfamiliar question and my instinct is to take it apart: what actually needs solving, what matters, who needs to understand it, what can be measured or built, and what has to be decided. Often the first result isn't the solution but a sharp, structured picture that turns an amorphous problem into a conversation a team can act on.

Technology and data are never the goal for me, only the means to reveal opportunities, enable action and create real impact.
